First Crystal Palace, then Wolverhampton Wanderers, now Leicester City. Three defeats in the space of eight days, and at arguably the worst time of the season, means that Arsenal’s hopes of a top-four finish are unravelling. The frustration was written all over Unai Emery’s face on an afternoon when nothing went right for Arsenal against a resurgent Leicester side.

My deep appreciation goes to the family of Professor Sophie Bósèdé Olúwolé for inviting me to give this commemorative lecture on the life and times of Auntie Sophie. Permit me to begin with a personal tribute to the deceased. As human history has shown, there have always been, in every generation, unique individuals who speak in prophetic and visionary voices and with a high sense of urgency and moral authority, alerting the people of impending social danger and calling them to action. For example, Yorùbá mythical figures and ancestors such as Òsun, Ajé, and Móremí in Yorùbá ancient society are embodiments of this ideal. A student of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State popularly known as Mr HOD, allegedy committed suicide few days ago. According to reports, the man from Enugu State, called his close friends on Wednesday, to tell them that he was going on a journey of no return before drinking Sniper, a lethal pesticide which has become a popular choice for suicidal Nigerians.
