After netting 600th career goal, Messi is UEFA player of the week

Lionel Messi has been named the UEFA Player of the Week following Barcelona’s 3-0 win over Liverpool in their first leg Champions League semi final clash at Camp Nou.

The Argentine star scored two second half goals to hand the Spanish champions a sizeable advantage going into the second leg at Anfield.

Luis Saurez had earlier put Barca ahead in the 26th minute in the keenly contested game against the Premier League side.

Then Messi’s 75th minute strike doubled the lead for La Blaugrana before scoring an exquisite free kick in the 82nd.

It was his 600th goal for Barcelona and his 48th of the season in all competitions, as well as his 12th goal in the Champions League.
